Yes it did. <(-)>

Got a nice picture too...

Guess I should collect some Watcher News for you folks as well. Plus get another plate ready for the 2420 shot.

Well, this isn't Orwell's "1984". Though maybe the Watchers will declare a totalitarian party in 2484 just to celebrate the 500th anniversary.

And you might want to be more paranoid about what one's neighbors are up to before worrying what the observer will do. I'm not fielding anything carrying guns yet... (though you'd could almost say the same thing about FO and FAC troops - they're not armed to really hurt anything, are they? Shocked )

Not to mention there are lots of other literary references to observers/watchers. "The Sentinel" if you're into cheesy horror; the "Watchers" from the Highlander series; a reference to an eye the size of a moon in SF (who made it eludes me at the moment - Heinlein or Niven maybe.)

- The Watcher

P.S. - Not associated in any way with CBS.

The Watcher are a perfect totalitarian democracy. There is only "I" in the Big Eye. Very Happy

2420, and time for the Watcher News!

<(o)> THE BIG EYE NEWS NETWORK....

Light skirmishing spotted in several areas of the galaxy. Whether or not heavier combat storms are to be expected has yet to be determined.

Peasant revolt reported in the Loran Empire. Now an anarch-synarchic commune since the previous method of selection involving watery tarts heaving scimitars proved fatal to too many potential candidates.

Rumors of Watcher complicity unconfirmed since any questions raised with the Watcher government only drew a reply of "so?".

More news as it is seen...

[Everyone say 'cheese'!]

Greetings to all from the High Emperor of the Desquis.

We have followed the Loron revolution with great interest, as we follow the Prime Directive of involving ourselves in the affairs of lesser races at every opportunity.

To our disappointment, it appears the new management of Loron Heavy Industries are just as unresponsive as the old regime, despite the regular press statements. Our emissary has so far been unsuccessful in obtaining an audience.

Perhaps Loron management have secluded themselves for an extended planning conference, which is understandable, but we suggest they appoint a steward to oversee things in their absence.

Thus I relay to you the words of the High Emperor of the Desquis (may his star shine forever brightly)

I am Wynand, Appointed Speaker for the Current Incarnation.

Greetings from the BIG EYE <(o)>

The latest Watcher News...

(1) EYE Broadcasting Consortium reports that Eye-Net transmittors now cover the entire RWIAB IIa galaxy. Therefore our reporters should be able to track developments and property disputes with greater speed and accuracy.

(2) One of our fearless muchrackers penetrated the production centers of Loronian Manufactoring disguised as a garbage deliverybeing (he wore large sunglasses and a bulky coverall.) His assessment was summarized as: "Quality Control has no meaning to the Loronians since they're data processing stations have no letter 'Q' due to a design fault."

This exchange between a QC Manager and a foreman was overheard on a dock while delivering broken down melon rinds to a mine building facility:
"Does it blow up when the user tries to turn it on?" "Not that frequently." "SHIP IT!"

(3) There are also a number of border adjustments currently going on. Whether this results in open warfare, or simply in exchanges of kamikaze legal representation remains to be seen.

Further items can be sent to Watcher Central for potential inclusion in later issues. The Truth is out there!

2440 Survey completed.

Looks like a number of wars are underway and being waged with various degrees of success.

Nothing special in terms of Watcher News. <bit busy in Real Life for tossing items out at the moment. Will hopefully put some stuff together in the next couple of turns.>

<(-)> 2450 survey completed.

The Watcher follow the on-going Polanie/Loronian War with some interest. Lots of stuff getting crunched up.

Whether or not this leads to wider hostilities elsewhere is not clear.

We also received the following advertisement copy:
=============================================

*Missiles explode in a metropolis while counter-missiles leap into the sky.*

"Have recent company reorganizations left you without a job?"

*A dirty octopus-like being extends a bowl towards the camera, its skin mottling in a pleading manner.*

"Has worker repurposing left you not making enough credits?"

"Loran Heavy Industries might be the company for you! We're a "new economy" company looking to expand in the IIa sector and need hard-working Marketing Managers to conceptualize, strategize, initiate and align our marketing resources around our core competencies. Salaries are commensurate with performance, and Loran Heavy Industries offers a generous compensation package that includes subsidized housing!"

* An image of a wall with scores of hatches on it. One of the
hatches opens and a bipedal humanoid slides out through an opening scarcely larger than its shoulders on its back. It turns to the camera and smiles.*

"Candidates are expected to be able to maintain balance between
customer needs and corporate marketing requirements; leverage
marketing support methods to drive development and execution of
marketing campaigns; ensure high speed-to-market; ensure brand
integrity; and translate raw content into strategic messages.

"If you understood what any of that means, please send your resume to jobs@loran.gal!"

<(o)> Watcher News <(o)>

Major escalation to the wars in the IIa Galaxy.

The Armagon and OKs have become involved in the hostilities between the Loronians and Polanie/Desquis by starting offensive actions against the Polanie, Desquis and Zurgs.

The intervention was led by the firing of a considerable number of mass packets. These are believed to have caused serious damage to a number of installations. Casualties have not been disclosed.

Watcher reporters are trying to gather further information on how these actions will affect the current war front in the central sector.

Elsewhere, the BFT (Big Furry Thing) report the development of new AI sufficient to control robotic curry combs. This saving in personal cleaning time is expected to improve the efficiency of the BFT economy by at least 10%.

Further news as developments warrant.
