Ok,

anybody out there with some nice nubian designs tested in real games?

what about special features like the jammer50? how to handle the extra cost of weapons?

is is just that you only need one stack of jammers instead of 2?

do you just fill 2 slots with amps and not 3?

some suggestions would be nice, and i assume IS has RS in most cases...

is it useful to put 6 jammer50s on a ship?
i guess not, but i am open for discussion...

what if i got good weap and const tech, but not energy and prop
(so ram16 and shields 18) - that results in design changes...

I would limit an IS Nubian to two stacks of weapons.

Also there is no need for 6 J50s. the most jamming a ship can have is 95%, that's achieved with 5 J50s. However, the difference between 87% and 95% isn't worth an extra slot IMO.

With RS I tend to like 2 slots of shields. Probably even more so with lower tech energy.

Therefore (in slots):
Nubian
1 J50, 2 AMP, 2 Shield, 3 cap, 4 or 3 BDs, 0 or 1 jets (2 jets or 1 OT in a slot go get to speed 2.5)

Missile ships are more complex, depends a lot on other goals.

The ram 16 is a perfectly fine engine. It's not normally worth it to get to the lighter ones.

What about missle-nubs?

It seems in the game I am playing in I will be short in boranium because i built the horde early, so I will need to build lots of missleboats.
I also have relatively much germanium left Very Happy

So what I was thinking about was a design with 2 slots or Arms.
This will make them fully gateable, and as others build mostly Omegas, and mostly 3 slots, I will be lighter and with the higher range I will have 2 shots before they are in range (with 1 slot less in missles I have 1 more slot for comps).
(making much use of any/any/disengage orders)

In combination with lots of sappers that might not be too bad,
sappers cost G, but I have enough of that, really...

If your described ARM Nub is a counterdesign to those Omega ones then go for it. If they are not highly jammed you may get quite an advantage with your double damage (you don't have a range advantage though!). To get even more advantage you should build a sapper design too: probably a BB with high init that will die after the first shoot.
If your race isn't -f, or if you don't have very high elec you'll see that left germ will vanish in few turns of intense shipbuilding. Currently the highest cost for my AMP Nubs is germ, and I don't build them with any computers. Sad

Seems missle nub designs for IS are not much different than for other PRTs then...

Lets see if my Hobbit race survives until Nub aera, but I guess they do... Cool

Maybe I am missing something. I thought Armageddon missile BBs had one more range than Omega Torps?

My mistake, sorry. The last time I used Omegas was in a modded VML game where Omegas had range 6.

Obviously, this is no longer relevant to the game he was playing, but just some PSAs about this:

- a nubian with 6 armageddon missiles will always take losses when gated (you can get 6 omegas on while keeping to the 318kT limit if your engines are light enough, but nubian (100) + 6 missiles (210) + 3 engines (minimum 12) is already a minimum of 322kT without counting the other components)

- a ship with omegas and speed 2.25+ (and most omega nubians have speed 2.5 to escape from AMP nubs anyway) can get the entire battleboard in range on round 1, so it is only possible to get a free shot if their battle orders permit it (which they sometimes will, but sometimes won't).
