Hi All!

I've put a fair amount of effort into mapping Stars! blocks. From that I can currently clean "shared" data from the .M files. I can also detect a number of the reported cheats in submitted .x files.

I'm wondering in anyone would be interested in an "anything goes" game. The catch is I want players to report when they use a cheat, so I can see if I can detect it (and, likely, correct for it).

Host would not be playing Smile

By "report" do you mean report to you, or report to everyone?

EDIT: Also, will you actually be undoing the cheats, or just confirming your ability to do so?

I just mean report to the host (me). Issues detected report to the player, and the host.

As to the second question, I suppose it depends. For any cheat I can't (or fail to) detect, there's not much I can initially do about it. I'll have to write the code to detect/fix it, so until I do, you'd have free reign. But i'd be trying to Smile How would you want it to work?

Right now I can either report only, or fix, a number of the exploits. The shared user data should, at this point, just be not there. The MT, wormhole, and minefield info for other players in .M files is cleared, for example. What the MT has on board is cleared.

My long-term goal is to have an environment where you can play without having to worry about players using exploits against you.

Rick

I can also flip Anonymous Players on (hiding user IDs for the game), or not. There are a number of other features for game management as well.

Well, it's not much of a "cheaters prosper" game if the host undoes all your cheating. Then you've just wasted hours per turn for no benefit. If you really want people to cheat, and to tell you about it, I'd recommend allowing the cheats to take effect (with some very loose bounds for sanity, like if someone somehow embeds attack code in a .x file).

What I'd considered at one point was actually awarding those who cheat with some game effect (like tech) if their cheat was removed.

It'd also still be of use if I don't have a fix.

But I see your point, and am fine with that.
