Plain Vanilla 2018 refuses to die, because my players are awesome sentient beings! Yet there's no reason (save sanity) not to start ANOTHER game while I'm refereeing this one. So here it is!

If there's interest, I'm down with hosting a medium (6-10) player game. I'm thinking about something like Pentacles, with each race starting in a small pocket of planets, and a large bucket of planets in the middle. Thoughts?

Sounds interesting enough. Please sign me up. About how many planets in each small pocket and in the large bucket? A sample map would be very helpful. Thanks for being so open to host.

Any race design limits? Or diplomacy rules?

What about a team game? A team of 2 at each corner of the pentacle? All others must be set to enemy?

Starting clusters: I would be betting on 10-15 planets per small pocket, 20 if it's a team game. I'll whip up a map in a sec, but it'll be a visual only.

Races: I'm good with No CAs, or JOATs with NAS.

If we do teams though, it would require an even number of players. At least 10 for a pentacle. I'm more open to single players, with a minimum of 5 players to start, cap at 8 players max.

I was thinking that people could enter as teams, and design their races together, rather that being randomly paired with someone.

I LOVE the cluster idea, and equally love the prearranged paired teams in each cluster. I'm DEFINITELY in for that type of game. I'm not convinced it would have to be 10 people/five points though. I think four points/clusters and 8 total people would also work. I do think that any smaller than that and there would be some issues.

Keep calm and carry on!

Yeh brings new understanding to the area know as "cluster f". Going to pass if it ends up a team game as my work schedule makes coordination difficult.

Do we have anybody else on the fence right now?

I would prefer a singles game but can be talked into a team maybe.

Need some basic rules first.

PV2018 is still going strong so I can't commit to a game that will take a lot of time Sad

Would consider either a no-comm game or a no-comm team game (i.e. no comm outside of team)

Okay, I think we've got enough for a no-comm team game. @projectstupid if you look in the Hosting forum, you can see a method to make your own galaxy that might give you an idea of how this one would play.

As for rules, I'd base it off of the Duo's.

Race restrictions, CA and IT are banned, Joat cannot take NAS. You cannot take HE factoryless. This means you cannot have factories worse than the default of 10/10/10 and no GR above 10(20). Races that have previously been banned from DD's will be banned in this game.

All races other than your teammate must be set to enemy. No communication with anyone other than your teammate.

No tech trading with anyone other than your teammate. Only one race per player, you can however submit your ally's turn if necessary.

Race names, including the plural version must be unique

Other game settings are as follows:

- Distant players position
- AccBBS
- random events off
- PPS off until 2500.

Standard cheat disclaimer, which means that the following cheats are allowed:

- chaff
- split fleet dodge
- merge fleets after gating
- Mine damage dodge

0800 GMT every day through 2430. After 2430 the game will switch to M-W-F. After 2475 the game will switch to M-Th.

Condition of victory, PPS being turned on at 2500 and then a vote. If there is no clear victor, keep playing until there is a clear victor by vote.

Universe will be medium dense, with clusters of ~20 planets at each player start.

There will be 5 or 6 teams of 2 players. You will start next to your teammate.

Is there any chance to change to "MTWTF through 2430"? I have a teammate and we could play, but "every day" is difficult for us. Sorry my english.

1: Shouldn't it be "Can't Stop, Won't Stop"? Is that a Miley Cyrus reference? If so, I rescind my complaint.
2: Any idea how many greens/yellows we would get in our initial cluster?
3: Completely on-board with "Daily" meaning "M-F".

I'd be interested if it wasn't a team game. Designing two races that really complement each other and then coordinating moves during the game would take more time than I could spare.

Cheers,

Matt

Does "medium" refer to the number of players or to the size of the universe?

Or plainly asked: What will be the size of the pentacle universe?

For reference:
	Sparse	Normal	Dense	Packed Size
Small	96	128	160	240 800 x 800 ly
Medium	216	288	360	540	1200 x 1200 ly
Large	384	512	640	910	1600 x 1600 ly

One vote in favour of single player, no comms, no alliances.

Personally, I don't want the "no comms" aspect. It removes a large part of the fun in a multiplayer context.

Team vs Single[ 8 votes ]
1. Team game! 2 / 25%
2. Single Players! 6 / 75%

Simply polling team vs singles. Let's knock that part out and we can start getting serious!

I votes for team, via email, so clearly not all the votes are counted yet. Not that I expect a team game to win at this point...

Results are 6:4 for a Singles game. I'll gen up a starfield and maybe a universe tonight so people can see what they're up against.

Rules for a Singles game will be used. As for communication, PV2018 is fully comms, so we'll throw this one into the Non-Comms pool. I appreciate both the pros and cons of communication.

All players will be listed, but not their races. Players will be listed here, races on the game page. Max is still 8 single players. I'm running out of non-grey hairs, and want to save the few I've got.

Any other questions? Is a couple of weeks okay for creating races?

This is what it looks like - I forgot to check dimensions, it may need to be stretched a bit to accommodate for the clustering.
