Lmao Neil, you are extremely obnoxious.
You have a habit of pitchforking people you don't like and I've seen this ample number of times in the past.
Let me remind you of one basic thing.. You are a host. Not a god.
A god who's diktat we have to follow, BEFORE the game rules are even decided.
We signed up for a rings game, not a variation that you force upon us.
I expected some high handedness, when I saw you were the host, but this takes the cake.
While I appreciate your time, stop your childish behaviour.
I fully understand the need for anonymity in this game, but your attempts in forcing game rules discussions to be routed through you is draconian and narcissistic.
You're acting like a bullying school teacher who refuses to teach the entire class, till one student xhe has a problem with leaves the classroom.
Speaking of repeat offenders, may I point out multiple cases of your boorish behaviour?
You become abusive just because someone had the temerity to ask about last minute submissions.
While I understand you are working long hours, that's no excuse for your atrocious attitude.
There are plenty more instances, but there's no point of me wasting my time.
I also thought about ignoring this, but I've done that plenty of times in the past and it's not helped issues, if you feel you can hurl vague accusations around.
Be clear and feel free to clear out your misconceptions, don't try to pitchfork me.
Not to mention this goes to show your bias and validates my apprehensions about your ability to be a host.
I play stars! and other games to relax, not to deal with crap that you just pulled.
I've had problems with your hosting, but I didn't make a public fracas about it and worked around it.
Perhaps that was a mistake.
Either way, you have a horrible attitude and your ultimatums aren't appreciated.

Leave him alone. He volunteered. Whatever his shortcomings it is his prerogative to set the rules and run the game as he sees fit. I haven't seen anything unfair from him in the least. I wouldn't blame him at all for booting you. If you were on the soccer field you would get a yellow from me for arguing with the ref the first time around, and this might well be a red. Then you get a nice view from the bench and a ban from the following game.
Volunteering doesn't give anyone the right to behave the way we've seen above.
Next you'll say someone volunteering to serve food can throw food around and tell someone to get out of line.
Re:your soccer field example, the rules are decided, we know if we are playing american soccer or european soccer. The ref is enforcing the rules.
Here, the rules are still being discussed for the game.
Please don't confuse the conversation talking about "fairness".
If you think it's fair for a 'volunteer' host to behave the way seen above, good for you.
To say that again, I didn't post my replies to his 'survey' here. I replied via an email.
What I did post here were "CHANGES" and "NEW RULES" to the previous game mode.

Bah, apologises for feeding the argument but still replied.
Stop being a troll please.
I didn't ask for any special treatment.
Stop being confused.
What I said was I don't agree with taking the rules discussion to a 1:1 instead of a group discussion as we've always had.
"Same avenue for input and desires" is what's wrong here.
This isn't a game that the 'host' is setting up, but a continuation game in an existing series.
If there are rule modifications and changes to that, I said let it be a open discussion.
What's so tough to comprehend? How in the world is that "asking for special treatment"?

3. Reply/clarification from game host on game settings/rules.
4. Pre-game announcements by game host.
Any other type of posts are subject to be moved to The Bar.
When the game has started, the game host should request that a moderator post a final message saying that the game has started, and lock the topic.
Thank you for helping to keep a tidy forum.
Lets stay on target here. We have about a week to get race files in and do some serious testing. Further questions or comments should be conducted vie email. Don't be afraid to click that "ignore user" link. Let the troll starve.
We are on topic.
The fact that you just "booted" me off a game that you didn't start is the problem.
I'm waiting for the OP to reply, which is why I waited a day before posting a reply to your crap in the 1st place.
You're just proving how negative you are, the way you are handling this entire episode, ignoring any "dissent" to your commandments.
I'll point out again, this is why I had requested co-hosts in advance, knowing fully well what to expect when you "volunteered".
Push comes to shove, if we can't find a different host, I'll take out a weekend or two and create this game myself.

You have a new private message titled "nmid acting out again", from "neilhoward", in the forum "Home World Forum".
neilhoward wrote on Thu, 11 May 2017 15:22You are now permabanned from games I host.
Oh, I'm so heartbroken.
Typical response from a bully, once someone calls them out on their bad behaviour.
Stop sending me private messages or mails.
What I don't understand is why no one else is reacting to this arrogance and high-handedness.
If this is acceptable behaviour just because we have no 'volunteer hosts', let me know.

ccmaster wrote on Thu, 11 May 2017 16:51Hi,
it seems the final rules are out so we could all stop talking. Also we should not speak in this topic about private messages we got we are in the new game section so
stay with it.
The final rules are most the same as the first topic was. So everyone has to choose if he wants to be in the game or out.
If you dont stop I will light up my mod and end it.
Hope there will be a great game starting soon.

Hi CC,
I know Neil likes using that report button and ignore button.
However, to be clear, my replies are related to this game.
The game rules which were 'finalised' are not the point of the current discussion, post Neil's ultimatum in his reaction reply.
My replies are relevant as they are meant to point out the unsuitability of Neil as an host, aside from discussing his ultimatums.
This is where the 'discussion' (including the other players and the thread starter) of whether I'm welcome in the game or not happens.
Not quite sure why your mod powers would be required here, for now.
Thanks for your time though!
Cheers.

Agreed. I was waiting for the OP to step in, but guess the overall silence means they agree with Neil (or they don't want the headache of dealing with Neil).
I'd been avoiding publicly saying anything negative or accusatory against Neil since he volunteered (in all my replies till he unilaterally decided to send a mail and said that's how we are going to decide rule changes).
Neil on other other hand has "muck raked" and "pitch forked" with his replies where he accused me of sock-puppeteering, bringing in my "behaviour" in previous games etc.
I probably should have reported him for that?
It seems that my previous private messages and mails haven't helped and only made matters vague, so to clarify, when Neil volunteered, I contacted ManicLurch and spoke to him about various issues that come along with Neil being a host / player in a game.
I've seen how he decide his ideas are the best and it's not open to any discussion. It was this reason why I requested for a filter in the form of co-hosts to help tone him down.
I won't go into details but every GTP player has seen Neil's abuses, responses and meltdowns which I first ignored, attributing it to his real life work load but not the 2nd time there nor the 3rd time here. Not that it's unique to GTP but also in various previous games and conversations.
As a host, he has arbitrarily decided to move non HW planets around as well, to arrange greens as per what he thinks 'feels' right, or place all HG/HP races together, and other similar changes which massively influences the game.
That's why I contacted ManicLurch when Neil volunteered and why I was the last to sign up AFTER it was confirmed how the game was going to be created + having co-hosts.
Existing game setup, Co-hosts, properly documented/explained steps on what changes the host is going to do during game creation.
Not sure when all of that went out of the window.
Ron, Neil is not the thread starter.
He is a host who volunteered to generate a universe for an existing game series.
Not sure why or where he thought he could propose changes to the rules of the game and that's what I was discussing.
I was not okay with him giving ultimatums and "booting" me out of the game.
I even offered to take a weekend out if I was not playing anyway and create a universe for Rings 2, but as I said above, I guess the silence from other players only encourages Neil and affirms his actions.
I was really trying not to point out the silence of other players, but I'm just not understanding how Neil's handling of rule changes or how he's handed out his 'punishments' is okay.
I wanted to avoid a case of being accused of sour grapes if I said "I don't want to play a game which is hosted by Neil anyway", which is why I was sticking around and replying.
However, I had spoken to a couple of other players (probably said this here as well) that I play Stars! for relaxation. Not to deal with crap that Neil pulled here.
While Stars! was my fav relaxing game for the limited gaming hours that I have, where I could play while multi-tasking watching something or listening to a podcast, but this isn't worth the bother.
Good luck guys.

ManicLurch wrote on Fri, 12 May 2017 02:04I don't know why nmid and neil can't get along. And please, neither one of you respond to that statement. I think both of you are at fault with this, I don't want to get into specifics. Can a mod please move all the bs to another thread in the circular file (which is where it belongs).
I asked for a volunteer to host, because I wanted to play in this game. Neil volunteered. I think Neil is a great host, he puts a lot of effort into setting up games. A lot more effort than I put into hosting and more than most.
Now I do understand that if Nmid has some personal issues with Neil, that he would want a different host. But I am not changing hosts. The game is ready to go and it took a long time to get to this point.
Nmid has some very strong opinions on how a game should be setup. But we voted and rules are set. He should start a new game with all of the rules that he wants and the host he wants. If you do setup your own game, try time it so it is starting when this one is about 2440 or so so I can play in both
We had a set of rules that were set, and a set of rules that all the players voted on. Neil didn't force any rules on us. The idea of possibly having the host disclose information about the top players was not Neils idea. Itzok suggested it. Neil formalized it and put it to vote. I think the reason for the private vote is a person's vote might reveal the type of race that they want to use. Group discussions are fine for the rule setups.
Neil and Nmid should either find a way to get along, or stay away from either other. But keep the crap off the forums.
I'm out. Whether it was because I was "kicked out" or because I decided not to play is obviously irrelevant.
The only reason I'm replying is to clarify the misconception in the previous post.
I wasn't talking about " set of rules that were set, and a set of rules that all the players voted on."
I was talking about "new" rules (Re: rules that I thought penalised HG races).
Blackblast's (deleted?) reply where he discussed my post, is was what I expected as a discussion.
That's the kind of discussion that would show me things I'm NOT considering.
You think this would come out of a 1:1?
It's got nothing to do with strong opinions.
My strong opinions come into play when I see ultimatums thrown around.
As I'm not in this game, when messages get shifted out, please transfer this msg out too.

I agree with CC and also ask why penalise HG races?
I would not want this condition.
This isn't a complete picture of the change. IT received a RW discount of 50 pts, even a 20% MPGR race is discounted 20 RW points from the previous proposal. JOAT (with NAS) received a effective discount from 120 (25+no NAS) to 95 w/NAS. If you want to hit 19% growth this is still 115, a better place than JOAT was before. 20% would be 125 RW, or 5 points more expensive. Rather than look at it as "punishing" HG races, this is granting additional discounts for taking hits to MPGR. *I* wouldn't take those points, but discount status still exists.
IS took the biggest hit, the bump in penalty *and* high MPGR hit.
>8% HE took a similar but lower hit to IS.
If this was made a general rule to all races instead of these select few it might be more interesting because, lets be honest, 19-20% is where every race wants to be (ignoring tri-immune, bi-immune or -f HE variants). Getting a bit of RW incentive to vary the growth rate a bit might be interesting and provide more variance to viable race strategies. *shrug* Probably not unless it was made significant, as MPGR is the single most important number in the RW.

>Everyone gets a choice of 3 additional starting ships based on race ability and modules present on zerohacked starting ships.
It's intriguing and tempting, but this is also giving a starting boost to a race and would help HP races who would rather spend early resources into building factories rather than ships.
I would not want this condition.
Everyone must build ships, and 3 isn't very many in the grand scheme of things. I think it is a consolation from losing 2400-2402, years that HP doesn't get to build factories while their population grows before needing to build freighters to export pop. HP is already starting in a hole in this galaxy due to this, and them getting a minor boost doesn't bother me. I really view this as an AR boost, those early mining ships aren't cheap and this would be a big boon to them to avoid the early mineral crunch they have.
Either way is fine with me, it's not that big a deal.
