Is the latest version of the Voper Mod (1.3, I think) still available?

Assuming your talking about the same thing ...

Verker has taken his site down with VML 1.3b mod IIRC.

I still have a copy of 1.3b (and also 1.1a.) if you'd like.

Alas, the two games I was in using it were never completed. Drop outs the first time. Second one just stopped without reason after about 15-20years IIRC.

Goober.

I have played a game with VML 1.1 (if I remember correctly) with some friends. Really interesting, you have to play differently. BTW, there were more ARs than usual Smile

I've been in a 1.1 game Transwarp III. Dropped for RL issues from leading position after more than 100 turns played. It was an interesting experience: forts for refuell and building light ships, ultra heavy cap-missiles and armor (1600kT - imagine what an overcloaker would that made Wink ) that could be built only on Ultrastation (that only had unlimited dock capacity), sloooow terra (IIRC latest at tech 21), new/changed hulls... Much severe decisions to be made when you pick up LRTs....
Pitty Verker didn't finish it. Sad

I took over a 1.3 game around a year and a half ago and, that game did finish. I really did enjoy it and I had taken over an SD that was doomed but still able to duke it out. I made the IS that was winning pay a high price and almost turned the tables. If the AR that was set to freind when I took over the SD had actually been an ally, the IS might have lost.

I do have a copy of the Verker 1.3b modfile and would very much like to play in another 1.3 game. Once I get my home server up and running I may be willing to host one since I could set up an autohosting feature then. Otherwise, I'ld be looking for someone to loan out some server space for the game duration.

If anybody wants a copy of the 1.3b modfile, just PM me.

Ptolemy

Does anyone know where to get StarsEd which could work with JRC4 ?

The one I have ver 1.2 (from http://www.pirates.retreat.btinternet.co.uk/indexpr.htm) does not like JRC4 and only works with jrc3. Yet latest VML mod 1.3b was done using jrc4 (plus it had all those nice hull graphics)...

Also does anyone know how to save 16-bit executable using Visual Studio 2003 ? I can (and would like) to modify some graphics using VS2003, but when I try to save - it could only save 32bit exes Sad

I have it. Send me your email address in a PM that can except a largish zip, and I'll email it to you. My only requirement is that you send me 1.2 in zip format, so I can extend my library. Smile

1.3b is 1.20 MB (1,265,664 bytes), just an FYI...

Visual Studio 2003 is useless for 16 bit executables. 16 bit stuff is 10 years old so support for it is discontinued by now.

Borland Turbo C++ back then had very good tool to change some resource without recompiling the executable. Not sure where you can now get one... these things were sold like sixpacks of floppies back then ... i think. At least i have lost mine. Sad

I actually still have the Borland resource workshop. It's a piece of cake to chage the Stars graphics with it. I could probably get it copied out of my laptop with the necessary dll's for it to run.

Hi guys, could I ask someone to send me a copy of VML 1.3? my username @gmail.com

Is there any reason why it isn't on the autohost downloads page?

Also, is there a comprehensive changelog anywhere? I have the 1.1 readme, but it is more qualitative.

Thanks,
Quatch.

Also, the text of the 1.3b changelog (the part that wasn't in 1.1 and doesn't seem to be in the forum):

Quote:

***version history:***

Changes in v1.2, v1.3, v1.3a and v1.3b

000 changing back TF costs to original values (due to the "production queue override")
001 altered TF tech level requirements
002 further altered mass driver costs in favor of PP
003 revised DD hull
004 revised FF hull (now both "Mk II")
005 revised freighter hull and cargo hold
006 altered freighter hull tech requirements
007 increased FM engine fuel usage at high warp
008 overworked look (=part placement) of all ship hulls (freighter, utility hulls now have a layout that can be recognized)
009 fixed version number on splash screen (v1.3)
010 fixed bug, that made SS start with a PB hull instead of a freighter
011 fixed bug, that made starting freighters useless due to a wrong number of engines
012 updated helpfile
013 reversed tech requirements for DD and FF hulls
014 changed starting DDs into FFs (may result in useless starting ships)

xxx discovered gating bug, that lead to the following changes:

015 changed weight of "heavy items" to 800kt, fixing a bug that let ships >32000kt use gates
016 rearranged stargate classes (mass and range), pictures, tech levels
017 changed FM W10 fuel consumption
018 BB Mk II now con17
019 DN Mk II now con20
020 renamed some starbase hulls
021 (ex)changed DS and ultra station to "boost" AR, altered tech requirements for both
022 downgraded DS shipyard
023 updated splashscreen
024 updated helpfile

edit: Added in google drive links too, as redundancy.
