Are we being visited by bots or something?
We had 331 users online at one time and I often see 20-25 guests online in the past few days.

Is this going to cause any bandwidth problems?

I used to curse when I got stuck in traffic... till I realised I AM traffic.

I noticed the forum doesn't log me off with inactivity like it used to. It could be a bunch of people who logged on, aren't actively using the forum, but haven't been logged off yet.

A good possible explanation.. it was just something that was puzzling me.
Though I think it explains only half those numbers.
I doubt there are 300+ active stars player who logged in within 24 hours of each other. That's the cynical side of me looking at it.

As an example: Only when logging in anew, I am listed with my nickname.
Several hours later I am not listed anymore but I suspect that I might be listed as one of the guests then (although still formally logged in).

The timeframe seems to be different for
* when logged out by force
* how long shown with nickname

The sudden peak at the 5th Sept... mmh, that was the date when I announced FA8 also at the old faithful Stars-newsgroup together with a link to autohost. No idea how big that list still is but I could imagine: big. So it might have been a mix of bots (due to the link) and real old addicts.

I find when I'm not actively calling up new pages, I get autologged out in under an hour, maybe even as low as 10-15 minutes. Any refresh after that would end up as a guest.

I imagine if Ron got a list of the IP's we could do a reverse lookup and see where they're coming from. A coarse view (say ISP or country) would likely be a quicker analysis.

I'm not getting logged out as often as that. Instead, often I don't need to re-login after shutting down the computer for the night and opening SAH the next day. Which is of course as it should be. Rolling Eyes

We have had 128 registrations in the past 9 days vs 23 in the 16 weeks prior to that.
Good news I'm sure, but I'm hoping they aren't automated signups.

Well, so far we were spared from spam and ad bots.
