Greets to all, I hope you had a great Xmas and wish you an even happier new year.

I'm slowly resuming coding on Nova, I just commited rev 743 which breaks the game for good; it's now unplayable and will remain so for a few more revisions until I finish the new order system which I just begun, oh yes I went there Shocked
For the moment you can change research status but nothing else.

After that there's a few things I want to take a look at, mainly the race definition system is a bit messy imho. I'd like to simplify it a lot with proper Enums and move the flavor text and descriptions to a resource file. After that getting the race designer up to speed (from the Java code we pillaged) would be my next step.

Then it's back to the server with the battle engine, and beyond!

Glad to hear someone has picked up the torch again. Work and study are likely to keep me from any serious Nova development for the next 12 months at least. However I am still keeping an eye on the forums and sourceforge. If you need an admin, you know where I am.

You will probably find a lot of strange things happening when you try to play through the game, so do not immediately assume your latest changes are the cause. I believe the game was broken since at least rev 741. The last lot of changes had not been properly debugged.

Have fun.

I debugged as most as I could with the last batch of changes. Problem is that they were never fully completed as they chain reacted into a lot of restrucuring, including this orders thing, so in a sense the changes are not done yet, it's a big structural change.

I hope to catch most bugs as soon as I'm done with the orders, as it will clean up a lot of data going back and forth, as well as streamline some operations.

On a semi related note, I don't have a Linux enviroment and won't for some time, so I can't check the *nix side of things. Mono has done some catching up to .Net though, so things look good in that regard.

Yes, there has been a lot of restructuring and it will require a lot of debugging to find all of the downstream effects. Still this is important stuff that needs to be done for Nova to function as a Stars! clone.

Have fun.

Greetings everyone;

Checking in to see how things are progressing and who is still around? I am still not able to assist with development from my Mac machine as Mono has not been updated far enough to support the use of the ".NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile". Therefore, the new code still will not compile on my machine. Perhaps one day I will be able to come back and assist with this project again. My partner and I are still very interested in the idea of being able to play a stars like game on our Mac.

Any of you still working on this keep going we look forward to the results.

Is it .NET 4 or the Client Profile that's giving you trouble? You'd expect that the Client Profile would be a subset of .NET 4, but you never know...

I still check from time to time. I've been meaning to get back into coding, but between masters degree thesis + job, I don't have much time left.

Mono already has .net 4 compatibility though, and has had it for some time;

You should be able to compile it with no issues, what errors are you getting?

I am still keeping an eye on this project and answering the occasional email question. Masters study and work are keeping me very busy and will do for the next 18 months I expect. Perhaps I will get some Nova time over X-mas...

Have fun.

I just updated Mono and MonoDevelop on my Mac and I still continue to get the following error:
Error: Framework '.NETFramework 4.0 Client Profile' not installed. (Common)

I will see if grabbing the most recent code for the project from SVN makes any difference.
