Has anyone heard from Damon? He hasn't submitted the last two turns so I was just wondering if he had quit or if he's coming back.

I received an email from him indicating surrender due to his being overrun by a neighbor. Therefore I have set him to "pink" status and will not be seeking a replacement. He is free to return if he wishes.

I know that this does effect the balance of power in the game since a few races suddenly lose a threat from a certain quarter.

The alternatives are:
1. Leave it as a race that has fallen into internal chaos; i.e. no one submitting turns.

2. Put the game on hold until (and if) I find a replacement player. My opinion is that this is unfair to the other players and also disruptive to the game flow.

3. Seek a replacement, and in the meantime allow the neighbors to chew on "idle" race. That will leave even less for a potential replacement to work with.

4. Seek a replacement, and in the meantime declare their worlds/territory "neutral" and not to be trespassed on. My opinion is that this is unfair to the races that have spent resources, minerals, and effort in pushing the Sea Monkeys to this point.

5. I temporarily take over Sea Monkey defense. My opinion of this is that it heavily erodes my neutrality as an observer only -- too easy to suspect that I'll tap the Mad Scientists scouting and other connections.

I also note that one reason I chose option #1 is that this was a voluntary surrender - not a sudden drop where the player can not be found or contacted further.

I assume he's already in a weak position due to upto 3 other players attacking him (not saying it was a concerted effort, just how it's turned out).
That means it may not appeal to a new player.

I say to let them enjoy the spoils of victory and if Damon won't come back then possibly set it to computer control if you want them to be kept a little on their toes.

Being one of the races that has umm... 'appropriated' some of his worlds (I hardly call 1k pop on some of those worlds as really 'his' though). It wasn't a terribly organized operation between the races, we all just looked and saw a -F HE with no immunities... All I could think of was an easy lunch. It wasn't until after I started that I mentioned it to one of our mutual neibors and he mentioned he was doing the same thing. So it was bad luck for this guy all around. He gets points for bravery using an HE in a -F game though.

All in all, there is some scuffle in the quadrent about who gets what world now, and they ain't comming too cheap... Those new starbases will require a bit of building to take down. I would encourage to player to download a turn every week or so and upload, just to keep us wolves on our toes so to speak.
