yea... I just woke up and realised the same thing.

It's showing Aug. 11 '11 - 22:14, so it's been frozen for almost 18 hours now.

Looks like it crashed. I've restarted things and put all games on hold so they won't generate right off the bat without players being able to upload turns.

Yep. It is.

Let me ask a newbie question, here. Is this the mechanism by which we let Ron know there's an issue? If so, it seems fairly indirect.

Or when AH is stuck, does Ron get a notification? The last thing I want to do is send him an email if he's received dozens already. Sorry if this has already been covered. A cursory glance at the forum didn't yield a clear answer.

Cheers,
Void

Don't worry, Ron will act as soon as he gets near the server. Nobody needs to alert him to that. Rolling Eyes

A more justified worry would be what happens to any games that don't get automatically put "on Hold" Confused

I doubt SAH gives out a notification to Ron, when it gets frozen.

You have a valid point about inadvertently spamming Ron's inbox, but leaving a message on this thread 'might' be the best way, in case Ron has subscribed to this topic.
He'll get only 1 email notification that someone posted in this thread like so:
"New reply to AutoHost is Frozen by Coyote"

Multiple posts here won't make a difference or spam his inbox.

ps - I'll wait for 24 hours for SAH to be frozen and then send him an email.. afterall, he might not have recd. any notification of a post on this thread.

Doesn't Ron always put all games on hold when he "un-sticks" SAH?
I've seen him do it for frozen SAH as well as when SAH goes through a DST change.

I'm sure he will. My question is more how does he know he needs to get near a server? Smile

Players can still upload their turn, so I'm not worried about that part.

A method we recently agreed on for SAS4 was if a player cannot upload their file they should e-mail it to the host before the turn is supposed to generate. This way there is the to option to regen the turn without anyone being able to benefit from the knowledge of what might happen the following year. It does not cover the random element but it is a good compromise.

The problem with the current "freeze" on AH is you get no error message unless you check a few minutes later to see if your submitted turn appears on the list.

It is likely the turns are all waiting in a queue, to be freed when Ron uses his oil can, but having a backup system (submitting turns to the human host) is a wise move I think.

Actually, that makes no difference.

Even if SAH is frozen, it still 'registers' / acknowledges game turn file uploads.

I've uploaded my FA7 turn and I'm pretty sure it will register as an upload when SAH refreshes.

(got a much needed extra 10 mins to finish my turn too... have to stop procrastinating and stop playing my turn at the end!! :s )

Usually, yes, I'll receive an automatic email that the autohost script is hung or exited.

It depends on how long the system has been down. Usually if its been down more than 3 hours I'll put all games on hold.

Correct, incoming .x files wait in a directory until the autohost script processes them.

What's also interesting is that when I posted that comment it was my 300th post. Now, after posting earlier, I'm at 299, with this being #300, again. Curious...yet completely inconsequential...

I believe there was a request in the Bar for a replacement player, then a reply saying the slot had been filled. I delete that type of thread after the request has been filled. You probably had a post in that thread.

On related news, the SAH game server seems to be hung-up since April 2, 2012, 1:04 UTC.

Anyone knows what's up?
