OK, I'm missing something here.

I have 20+ minelayers roaming around enemy space in my current game. To avoid being intercepted, they never stop for long and are constantly changing direction and speed.

I'm dependent on the "laying on arrival" feature of the SD to lay down disruptive minefields. The problem is - half of the time, my minelayers arrive at their destination and then do nothing. I can see their orders are set to lay mines, but there are no minefields.

Anyone else ever see this issue?

Isn't there a limit on the number of fields you can have ? Have you reached it maybe ? If you have then the number of fields you can lay each turn is the number that have vanished due to decay.

512.

Other possibility is that you lay mines inside a minefield that is swept the same turn. Sweeping happens after laying on arrival ...
Or your ML lay a too large field so second ML lays his mines inside the field of the first one ... and than it gets swept somewhere so the ML appears to be outside of the minefield ...

I've been told that there is a bug that your MLs indeed don't lay mines on arrival but have not come across it yet, so can't verify it.

Another possibility is that you are setting multiple waypoints and not noticing that the minelaying orders are being deleted for the non-terminal waypoints.

I have noticed this in a recent game as well. Somehow the order to lay seems to vanish sometimes ... Confused

Yeah, if you are laying mines with the indefinite duration setting, and then set multiple waypoints only the last waypoint inherits the lay mines order, you have to go back and manually set lay mines for one year at each intermediate waypoint to get the mines laid on arrival at each of those waypoints.

better to set it to lay for one year and then add the waypoints

Hi,

Has anyone ever noticed a laying behavior almost opposite to that? Confused

I'm sending several fleets of minelayers thru a neighbor's space in a multi-year trip, with orders to lay mines on arrival at their final destination but not at any of the intermediate waypoints. I have the x file showing the correct orders were given. Rolling Eyes

Yet next turn I receive the message about mines laid, and the fields appear in my neighbor's space, causing great inconvenience. Evil or Very Mad

If you give your SD layers orders to lay indefinetily and send them away on a trip that takes several years they will lay mines at every "stop" they make. This is "normal" behaviour.

Orders were to lay just one year at destination, and all intermediate waypoints were clear. Shocked

I guess that "normal" behavior (and its possible variants) should be documented somewhere, then. Confused
