I'm going to be without internet for an unknown time, so I think getting a replacement is in order.

Does that mean that the game will stay on hold for now?

Yes. I have posted an ad to find a replacement.

That's kinda funny, because I had to go find a coffee shop to send in my turn. My power has been out for the past day.

Well I'll get it posted, and hope my power is restored before the game resumes.

John (johng316) has become the new ruler of the Mycelium.

He will familiarise himself with his empire before I take the game off hold. Hopefully this will be 2-3 days.

Please give John a big welcome to our game.

Sofians just missed two turns in a row.

Does this call for another hold?

While the Sofians have missed two turn in a row, they appear to be diplomatically active, so I would not consider them out of the game yet.

Ellurids/Combat needs to be replaced.

Combat will continue while a replacement is sought so the game will not go on hold for now.

I'm not clear on them myself, but he apparently wants to drop.

EDIT: Confirmed. He's dropping and needs a replacement.

EDIT2: For personal reasons, apparently.

I am myself wondering if I should drop or not. It been two turns in a row in which I had 10 minutes to play my turn... Resulting in an incredibly bad turn each time.

However, my problem could be solved easily if the gen time could be nudged a few hours up. As it is right now, the turn gen at 19:00 (my time). When I finish work at 18:00 and need 45 mins to get home, it leads to impossible odds...

I'm sure all the players are hoping that you don't drop at this important stage of the game.

The current gen is at 9AM my time so nudging up (I assume you mean earlier) wouldn't work very well - I like to be able to respond if someone has a problem so earlier than 9AM is no good.

I could, however, make it 3-4 hours later if you like - i.e. Sat Tue Thu 3:00. Would that be OK?

I will also talk with Zilly & Victor during this turn cycle to determine what the situ is with Zilly.

Yes, sorry. I guess I haven't been clear enough. What I really meant was to take it later rather than sooner. Only one hour would be pretty good, two hours would be best. This mean that the game would gen at my time 20:00 or 21:00, leaving enough time for me to plot a decent turn.

I work for an air conditionning and heating company, and thus I have no idea when the rush starts and when I get super busy at work. As it stands now, the rush this summer started early last week and it has been crazy ever since... And I have no way to know when it will drop back to normal.

I thought the longer gens would solve that problem for you. 72 hours is 3 days so why not do your turn (or the bulk of it) after 2 days? After all MWF only gave you 48 hours during the week. I always do a draft turn on day one of the gen cycle and just adjust it later if need be.

I don't think it's possible to set a gen schedule that's ideal for everyone. I could throw in a one-off max. 60 hour turn (not this turn) to change gen time to the other end of the day if enough people want it but I don't want to keep adjusting the gen schedule every 2nd turn as has been the case.

I didn't have a problem with the schedule in the past... It is now that I have one. I am way too busy at work to be able to promise anything. One day I could finish 2 hours early, and the next day two hours late...

Anyways, I'll do my best. And if I can't make it work then I'll ask for a replacement. No point in sending half finished turns, we could just as well end the game right here.

I have just got back from work and find out that I missed a turn by a few minutes.

I am dead tired of sending half finished turns or missing turns and losing ships and opportinity because of it. For me this is worse than losing the game.

If it happen again I'll simply drop out and this time it is non negociable.

No host pauses the game because someone might miss a turn. If they did then most turns would have to be delayed since someone usually submits very late. In my current game a few players often submit in the last few minutes, including me.

If you might miss your turn then warn me in advance. I am not able to monitor what is going on 24/7.

If you'd like me to add 12 hours to switch gen times to the other end of the day let me know &, if the other players find that acceptable, I'll do it.

Also, if your habit is to do your turn on the last of the 3 scheduled days, you could do it earlier couldn't you?

No, I could not. What frustrate me even more in this particular case is that the turn was done: all I needed to do was to wait for the reply of my ally and then tune up the turn. This would have taken me 5 minutes max. But when I got home the turn had already genned and there was no time left to do anything.

I don't always have internet access at the job, it depends of what I am sent to do. And like I already said several times, there is no way for me to know when I'll get back from work. However, with the current schedule the game is now genning at about 17:30... That's usually when I get out from work.

Pushing the gen forward would be nice, but if I do send my turn early like you suggest and that everybody does I'll simply end up with the same problem again. That's why I voted for strict schedule when you asked us, a few weeks ago.

Eagle, I understand your frustration, and I would be frustrated too if I missed turns by only minutes. FWIW, I am not opposed to a fixed gen time (say M-W-F).

Are you sure that there is no way for you to coordinate with your ally and get turns submitted on a 72 hour (3 full days) schedule? It *seems* like this should be plenty of time for any normal person or team, but perhaps you have significant issues a normal person doesn't have. If that is the case, maybe it is best for you to find a replacement player? I'd hate to lose you from the game tho.

Maybe you and Lurkers just need to sit down and figure out a faster way to talk and play if communication with your ally is the major obstacle. Assuming 12 hours to notice a new turn was available, another 24 to play your turn and cycle a couple of messages with your ally, you should still have 36 hours to upload.

Already, a 72 hour gen to me feels quite slow.

Anyway, I hope you are able to sort it out. I'll help any way I can, even by supporting a fixed gen schedule, but I am skeptical that going to M-W-F will help. How are you going to do it in 48 hours if you can't get it done in 72? I just want you to be realistic about what you can do, not trying to be a jerk. I know you must be very frustrated.

A fixed schedule would not be a problem for me. I guess that you people don't understand or know that I can't just sit down at a computer to play at any time in the day. When I sit down to play my turn it is always in the evening after work. This also include diplomacy and everything which is STARS! related.

As for my ally, when I am ready to sit down at my computer to "talk" with him then he's already sleeping or it is very late and he's about to get to sleep. When possible I try to chat with him in my lunch break... Which is late evening for him.

This is why I had my turn done but it wasn't uploaded. I "lose" a full day of communication with my ally because of the time difference, and as everybody know when you are in a team and you don't coordinate your efforts then the likelyhood that everything fails is greatly increased. And like I said, if I upload early then I both don't coordinate with my ally and also switch the shedule around. In practice, it means another day less for me. So your 72 hours (3 days) equal roughly only one day for me.

Communication with my ally aside, as long as the game gen at at least 20:00 GMT-4 then I could easily cope with a 24 hours gen for all I care...

I thought your ally was in a similar time zone but aparently not. I understand the difficulties of communication between allies with opposite time zones & I also understand your work situ.

I am keen that everyone enjoys the game, especially those who have not played many games (first impression & all that).

Since some players have a problem with MWF (2 days not enough) & you have a problem with the time of day for gens there are only 2 real solutions:
1. 2 turns per week, say MF strict.
2. Leave it at max. 72 hours & push this turn 8 hours (your gen time then 1:30). I can then adjust the gen by adding time if your gen time slips to earlier than 22:00. Maybe you could remind me if that happens?

I think that solution 2 should work for everyone & I have now implimented it. Does that sound good?

John, thanks for your input.
