Curious, is tech trading with neutrals acceptable? (I am not going to say that I have or have not done it.) It came up in a recent discussion, and I am curious to see what other players and the host think about it.

As far as I know is perfectly legal.

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster...when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you.

I think the game thread in "New Games" mentioned that it was legal, and I would certainly find it odd if tech trade with neutrals was forbidden.

I know the game thread says it is legal to buy ships from neutrals, so you could just buy some tech scrappers, perhaps paying with some other tech scrappers, and then scrap the tech scrappers yourself. The rules do not say anything about when you can scrap your own ships.

The rules do not say anything about where you may scrap your own ships, for that matter, so scrapping some of your ships at a neutral planet would no be forbidden in itself, if tech trade is forbidden then it is only the fact that the other player gains tech that is forbidden.

I have been operating on the understanding that this is permitted.

By the time you realize how steep the curve is, you will be using five types of calculus to get to the market. You will then need three different calculators to perform what you once considered basic arithmetic.

There are no restrictions at all in regard to tech trading.

Apart from the NAP & alliance size rules this is supposed to be a standard game. Exchange techs with your enemies if you want to.
