(coz Staz suggested I spam ya'll in the bar )
The Stars!wiki is up and ready for editing to all and sundry at http://wiki.gible.net/
You'll need to create an account before you can edit or create pages. Please use the same username that you use here at HWF.
Top of my list of things to add to the wiki are:
* Pages to define/explain the wiki structure(aka help page)
* The whole of Stars! FAQ (updated where appropriate of course)
* The whole of the help file.
* Zipped mirrors of now-offline Stars! websites
* Other sundry Stars! stuff
* Sections(namspaces?) for related programs (eg freestars) (after I learn how to run those aspects of the wiki...might try to do the same thing for the helpfile/article library if I can make it work nicely)

FYI I've started updating the wiki software to the latest version, so services may unavailable or err.. different until the process is complete, or the backup is restored.

if you're having trouble connecting to the wiki it's because the IP address was changed yesterday. The DNS entries have been updated, but they may take awhile to propagate around the DNS servers.
For immediate access you can add the following to your hosts file(its a plain text file):
121.98.136.28 wiki.gible.net
(from wikipedia)
The host file is located in different locations in different operating systems and even in different Windows versions:
Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista: %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\ is the default location, which may be changed. The actual directory is determined by the Registry key \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\ Parameters\DataBasePath.
Windows 95/98/Me: %WinDir%\
Linux and other Unix-like operating systems: /etc
Mac OS 9 and earlier: System Folder: Preferences or System folder (format of the file may vary from Windows and Linux counterparts)
Mac OS X: /private/etc (uses BSD-style Hosts file)
OS/2 and eComStation: "bootdrive":\mptn\etc\
Symbian 1st/2nd edition phones: C:\system\data\hosts
Symbian 3rd edition phones: C:\private\10000882\hosts, only accessible with file browsers with AllFiles capability, most are not.

Thanks Yanni!

Have you got access to webspace and bandwidth or are you in need of it?
About how much space and traffic do you need?

As far as I know, I'm fine. Yanni is just moving. He has periodically tried to change the way he does his hosting in the past. This time he might actually change something.
Space/bandwidth I'm not sure... My total is ~1.5GB apparently. Amazing how much you can get to in small pieces. The wiki last backup November comes to ~ 175MB which includes the wiki 'program', images etc, downloadable files and a database dump.

Question: have you ever considered to create a downloadable version which someone could use to access the most important pages of the wiki when they are offline? Or when the wiki itself is online...
|
Only fleetingly...I'd sooner set up a mirror somewhere. If you want to keep some pages offline you can always save them. How'd you think I managed to have so many website archives
