In the near future I'll be twice gone for a week
  1. from about 16th to 22nd July
  2. and from 13th to 19th August
Both times I'll leave civilization as we know it *grin*, first visiting my parents and in August sailing on the Baltic Sea... thus I'll be without access to the internet.

Thus I am looking for somebody willing to do my turns.

Actually I am quite tempted to look for a permanent replacement but since we have got a very close alliance I would like to discuss this with you before posting anything.

If a player starts bitching about too much communication (as I have already done several times) that's usually a bad sign. And to be honest, I am a bit bored with the game. It's my first "big" game and I realize that there were, indeed, superb reasons why I refused to play in games bigger than small/medium so far... the main reason being: boredom. The VA is obviously going for Nubes with at least weap 20/21 instead of just making a push. And while I can see us successfully defending for still quite a while, going even into the offence here and there, I can't see us winning... except the VA runs out of minerals before we do.

I have difficulties to suggest that we should just give up and cede victory to the VA, especially not before ma.stars gets kicked out, but my motivation of playing on runs more and more against zero.

Thus I would rather try to look for a permanent replacement than loosing more Spoo-battles due to bored inactivity.

@Skaffen, what about Greg? After FA I is finished now...

I can understand your feelings, things are dragging on quite a bit and with only two turns a week this will go on for months... On the other hand a faster schedule would also put me into family trouble. I wish they´d get on with the program already. Sad

Anyway, good idea on Greg, he´s willing to invest a lot of time on planning and an excellent ally to have. Maybe a bit unwilling to take risks for the situation we´re in. Wink

Only problem during that July period is that he´ll be moving and probably unable to do the turns properly.

Too bad my ships are so far from Earth worlds ... Knocking a few down and than concede would be lot less bad ...
Thought about this before: how about killing all Shadow worlds in one blow? If there are no more Shadows than VA does no longer *have* a goal ... Very Happy Maybe we can offer that as a trade! They kill Earth worlds, we kill Shadow and they can claim victory.

First I'd hate to see you leave, second it sucks when coming in for a permanent replacement and after 5 turns the game is over ...

Well, anybody of you willing to take over for next week?
Or shall I make a public post to perhaps find a replacement?

I might be going away myself for a similar period (17th-22nd) but I expect to have internet access so, though it would be better if someone else could handle it, if no alternative then I will do it.

I assume you're talking 2 turns: after Mon,Thu gens?

If you want a permanent you can make an announcement, unless Greg wants to do it.

As I said to Hyak:
"I thought you said you were aiming for weap16 (by trade) and eny10 (by own research) for your final push North? Weap20 would make it a bit easier, weap22 is overkill and waiting for nubs would show the VA might be good empire/econ builders but are tactical/strategical idiots if you don't mind me saying that. ;-)"

Maybe, just maybe they'll go with weap20 BBs ... they should have at least that weap level traded by now ...

I floated the idea to Greg and Graham. Graham declined, wants to take a break, haven´t heard from Greg in 2 days now so I wouldn´t count on it, I guess he would have written if he was interested.

Patrick: I could do your turn coming in on the 19th due on the 23rd (holidays on the 19th and 20th, yeah! Smile ) but not the one on the 16th as I have several late evening meetings and will be hard pressed to get mine in.

If John or Micha does that one we can handle that time you´re gone.

Now for me: I´ll be on a business trip from the 23rd to the 27th of June without Stars access. I would need someone to do the turn coming in on the 23rd due on the 26th.

Overall I think / hope that they´ll go for the push now and not wait for Nubs. Probably W22 the way they´re playing but hopefully not longer.

Damn!
Sorry, I fear I have plainly forgotten today's turn and missed it.

But the good news (and perhaps the reason I forgot):
A friend of mine was arrested on a demonstration in Greece and wrongfully imprisoned for over 4 bloody month there. During those 4 month he experienced no less than 3 prison uprisals due to the horrible conditions of eg 50 degree celsius in the cells and those crowded by upto 25 people.

They finally released him after a hefty ransom and he was able to come back to Germany.

Patrick, I'm really pleased for your friend! I've been jailed a few times myself during my life for opposition of war & racism including once in East Timor so I know about oppressive jail conditions.

Am I to take the SPOO/Narn turn after the Mon gen? What about the gen after Thu - I'm happy for Andreas to take that but I can do it if necessary?

East Timor?! Now that far out...

Plans slightly changed: I'll be gone from Wednesday to Wednesday. I'll try to do the orders for 2493 myself and pass on the files afterwards...

Running out of time... I've uploaded very basic orders for Spoo and Narn. Feel free to change them. Actually you are rather urged to change and enhance them. But I would suggest that one should be in charge... could this be John for 2493 (he volunteered, I think). I am still looking for somebody doing 2494... who?

And while I can do 2495 myself, it will be in a hurry... probably with no time to work thru 60 emails about bab5v2, so, please, make sure to give me battle grid orders in 1 email with an obvious subject.

Zipped Spoo and Narn files of the last 5 years which can be downloaded:
bab5v2-spoo.zip (985 kb)
The orders and files for 2493 are in the root. Usually I move all the files of the root to a 2493-folder before the next turn comes in.

OK, I'll complete 2493 - any special instructions/strategical notes?

I can't do 2494. I will be back in time but my wife will want my time since she's is due back from the US on Friday.

Back again and thanks for doing the Spoo orders.

Is somebody needed to do Skaffen's turn?

I don't think it's needed due to Mon gen skipped. Says he'll back on the weekend.

In a few hours I am off to the sea. I'll be back on Sunday or Monday, 19th/20th and most likely won't have time to do orders for the Monday turn.

Feel free to look out for a permanent replacement for the Spoo. Andrew seemed interested but only as a temporary replacement I think... can't hurt to ask him (hinting at Andreas).

Game files for Spoo and Narn can be downloaded here:
Spoo-Narn.zip
Orders for 2498/99 are done and uploaded.

Some tactical hints:
* Somehow slowing down Hayks in the centre. Most likely with the usage of heavy jugger-ultras and sapper-BBs (keep on building those and bringing them in).

* Playing cat&mouse in the SE: Hyaks have scrapped their bombers, so they aren't a big threat at the moment and the time can be used to try some runs on Hyak/Ipsha planets. Since the HYaks are stronger, keep in mind that the Spoo fleet has a range of 100ly, Hyak only of 81-ly... but supporting Narn bombers are only of mini-design (fuel!) and of 81-ly range.

* Try to keep the Spoo-minefields intact while sweeping the Hyak ones to keep them on their toes (that's what DD Blue Corsair and FF Light Corsair are for).

* Build whatever is necessary for our planned joined manoeuvres.

* In 2499 2 designs could be deleted: FF Blind Response, Enforced Enlightenment (mm80-bomber transfered to Narn). I've made a mistake in using 2 slots for a b17-cherry design and another for a b17-lbu. Thus I would rather suggest not to continue building those but to either build one new b17-design with 4 cherry/4 lbu OR waiting for the b52.

Tech trade by conquest:
* drop 400pop on planet 3M TA3 each year

Narn:
* drop 500pop on planet Mocha and 300pop on Sheridan each year
* use the Narn CCs and FFs for general skirmishing and hunting

As a last minute change:
Kosciusko and Alcoa are building mass drivers this year. One planet should hopefully survive the Hyak attack and thus you should make sure to packet Scotts Valley.

Aboce download files are uptodate.

Hi,
I´ve sent a mail to Greg, Andrew and Graham from FA and asked them if they´re interested, mostly under the prospect of a 15-20 turn commitment for the decapitation strike and probably conceeding if it fails.
