Hello here's my ideas for making a MOD

Each race has to have a strong chances to survive and excel.
Like what's the point of having special gadgets and stuff if they become obsolete at later stages of game. Better each race have their tools that really make differences.

Ok if you got a StarEd Go see this MOD and think about. Each race has their own venues...
But then the hole thing without being able to mod the guts of Stars like primary racial traits and lesser ones as well is not really complete. Gosh that game could be so much more if there only would be such a program. Sad I can't program myself.

all ideas, suggestions welcome and enjoy.

I wouldn't say that gadgets that become obselete are pointless... Prime examples are croby, fuel xport, chameleon scanner - items that are near useless in mid-late game, but are awesome in the early game.

But yeah, I do agree with you in that it'd be nice if there were more PRT specific items still usefull in late game.

Remove the Nubian or replace it with one or more less flexible designs and the PRT-specific parts will have more late-game effect.

All prts have at least one late game good feature:

CA has very good item and is very powerful anyway
IS has lot of them
SD has lot of them
AR has unbeatable feature

JOAT has ok one and is very powerful anyway
HE has ok item (flux)

WMs item is crippled by nubians
ITs item is crippled by nubians
SS items are crippled by IS item, JOAT item and not unical because nubians.
PP has quite crap features

So yes if one wants to improve WM, IT and SS remove nubians. PP is almost broken anyway. Others do OK. Nod

Make the PP drivers essentially free and lower tech? That still doesn't help them much - I think they need a modification to the guts so that the damage and terraform chance from packets increases with technology. Perhaps have the terraform chance increase separately for each variable along the appropriate research field, and have the damage dealt by packets increase with Biotech. Consequently this could make TT nicer for a PP. Perhaps let their minefields have a chance at destroying enemy packets - this is not a big thing but it's kinda cool.
I think someone had an idea for letting PP massdrivers collect a small amount of minerals each year from orbit. That could be useful.

Yes i suggested that collecting minerals thing but that was freestars suggestion (freestars has quite flexible component descriptions so drivers may be made properties kind of like producing fuel), it is next to impossible to make something like it by just moddifying executable.

PP would improve by lot if all mining produced twice more minerals and all things costed twice more minerals. Other option that PP PRT was made as cheap as SD PRT.
These mods are more possible but also rather hard to make. Confused

Another option is to give them "ship based massdrivers" that fit in bomb slots and can somehow fling mineral cargoes at planets to deal bombing damage.

That is again FreeStars issue, not imaginable by modding current executable.

My impression is that PP is low of ammo, not low of guns. On other hand using a PP as a platform to build some mineral monster race is difficult because it has low RW points. Wink

Maybe lets better make kamikadze packet? cost is 7500 people and 5 res per click. In flight and at arrival has all same properties with click of mixed mineral packet? Rolling Eyes With such packets i would play next game with PP. Laughing

WM has good item even in late game, I think... 0.5 battle speed bonus... On beam Nubian this means you don't need to spend a slot on jets. This is a comparable benefit that the HE has with flux capacitor. DN continues to be somewhat usefull in late game.

IT continues to be the only race that can gate missiles at will (others will often need to overgate still.)

SS I would say is still strong. Robber Baron is still unique, even if cloaking becomes somewhat accessible to all.

PP... Well, yeah... I guess it forces your opponents to max out their defences everywhere, but that's about it...


But yes, I think it is very boring that some PRTs advantages essentially become the same in late game - just a single slot saving on Nubians.

Of course, that flexibility is also the reason you go to con26 for Nubians Wink

What the PP needs is a ship mounted mass driver - like the jump gate.

Well, your idea would work differently that mine since a fleet could bombard a planet from range instead of eeding to maintain orbit. Potentially a lot more useful, also potentially a lot more overpowered and abuseable. -shrug-

If PP gets the mobile massdrivers as you suggest, perhaps other races gould get driver-bombs at sufficient tech level? The bombs as they stand cease improving at high tech.

This should move to the FreeStars! forum probably.

If each race would be able to develop their gadgets and such instead of having a fixed set of stuff only on one tech level.. that would be cool.
but yeah the original stars is way too limited. it's an interestign game nevertheless but Mare Crisium would still be alive if they'd be more openminded.

Making a game so that each player could design their own gadgets and keep improving them. No one IS or SS race would have the gadgets with same values of efficiency. As each person would decide how they spend resources to research and what areas they research. A game with special gadgets that they came to because of their concentration and spending of resources in certain areas(and another IS would not have theat special thing because it chose to go on a different direction)
