I've been fiddling with some data and thought this might be useful...

*For MMLs with 2 or more M40's (and I assume 50/80/130)
*Minefield constantly exploding

Number of mines in minefeild will eventually settle to:

Mines added/(0.27 + (0.01 * no. contained planets) )

tested up to 800 mines added for 0 planets and to 560 mines for 1 planet (and once for 2 planets) - is accurate to within +/-2 mines. Smile

Same accuracy for a single M40 but the %error is much bigger lol.

Thanks Gible. Very usefull little nugget of info.

So if you want an exploding minefield of radius R light years, to maintain it you will need a laying capacity of approximately:

( R ^ 2 ) * ( 0.27 + ( 0.01 * planets ) )

Example: radius 101ly, containing 2 planets, would need 2958 laying capacity. So as SD you'd need 10 MML each with 2 M80, for example. Hehe, expensive if you want it blowing every year!

EDIT: Doh! Typo! Thanks Gible

( R ^ 2 ) * ( 0.27 + ( 0.1 * planets ) )

Just checking...should that be .01 instead of .1? (+1% per planet)

In the mystery arts of mathematics honours graduates, it is common practice to add and remove 0's at random, to confuse people.

Just for you, I'll put it back in...
