If the "beta-testers" list is not full, I would like to join this game.

Intermediate here.... I'll join, if you'll have me. This looks... wierd. Smile Can I ask, though... what is the purpose of the mod?

I'll manually host it if you don't mind me playing an observer race.

Sure. I was intially thinking of an intermediate/advanced game to get feedback from more experienced players, but wasn't sure there would be enough takers.

Will be good to get a mix of feedback though Smile

Thanks for volunteering. That would be great Smile I would host myself, but I have very little time and couldn't generate to a reasonable timetable.

If I am allowed to play, to whom should I send my race?

Everyone should send their races to me - no passwords please since I'm manually hosting the game. When I get all races in I'll generate the game a few times until I get a reasonable starting distribution with reasonable mineral concentrations. Send the files to whsmith at welho dot com. Please note that sometimes my ISPs mail server screws up a little (I think they've been in the process of upgrading their servers) but all mails do get here - they sometimes just take an extra hour or so.

I'll create the observer race as a OWW and everyone should set the observer to freindly status. If I get ambitious enough I'll move the Observer HW to a corner so it's not usefull as a refueling stop for anyone.

Regards,
Ptolemy

Would you like to test any particular race? IMO we should test effects with as much different PRTs/LRTs as possible, so Ptolemy should IMO also coordinate that.

I think in terms of races:

CAs, SD, IT and JOAT have most major changes. AR are changed indirectly by changes to jamming and RS LRT.

On LRT side, RS is now much less attractive (due to availability of Ultralite armor - replacing crobmium, and mega poly shell - note MPS only has armour and shielding, the scanning/cloaking/jamming has been removed).

NAS is also less attractive due to better AS and only 1.5x scanner boost for NAS.

NRSE is less attractive due to cheaper tech requirements for certain scoops.

Lets make sure there's at least one of each - CA, JOAT SD and IT. Wouldn't hurt to have an AR and an SS also.

Even with better SB jamming, I don't think AR would survive long in this game Wink

Just a reminder to all that the race should be generated using the modified EXE (otherwise you might have excess RW points that become wasted).

It looks like my website has gone down for the day, but I'll reboot it tonight (UK time).

With 15 planets per player (assuming 8 players) that's quite true. Even for other races is that number quite low. Therefore I'd suggest using dense universe (~20 planets per player), to give players the chance to get some higher tech levels (test some more advanced stuff), before serious fighting starts.
BTW I'm testing a CA - a fairly standard "HG monster from hell", and it's not even close to the usual monster. Much more like a HP, but even more fragile - just kill those expensive CoHs and it's in deep s... erm... trouble. Wink
Ptolemy, I need one more day please to test that punny race that was once upon a time the mighty CA. Laughing
BR, Iztok

The mod site ( http://darkcluster.com/crabby/ ) is down for me most of the time. I used a version I downloaded 01/21/06 - is it the latest one?

As I see, this looks like quite a good mod to add more balance into the game, despite most MT items are thrown away...

That should be fine. There was one update to correct the CA instaforming, but no changes to race costs.

Site is back up again. I will try flash upgrading the router later today to make it more stable. If we are short of players, I can play an SS, but I warn you that I'm pretty bad Wink
