Just so people are aware...

There seems to be an artificial limit to the number of mines that an SD can lay. If you hit the limit, the following message will be displayed.

Fleet #150 failed to lay mines this year due to technical difficulties.

If you search the above phrase on google groups, you'd get more gen. (someone else has experienced this also) but unfortunately it isn't fixed. Booooooo Crying or Very Sad

Kinda buggers up my plan to pave the galaxy in mines Very Happy

Cheers
Drew

I believe you can only have 512 minefields.

Some people concider SD the most powerfull PRT(mainly SD players themselves Very Happy )
So this 512 minefields/race limit lowers the power of SD's a lot.
Especially because SD's minefield decay slower and U cant detonate or even remove Heavy of Speed Bump Fields. There is a way around it though. Always place standart mines with your special ones. That way you can detonate the standart mines to remove the special ones.

Hope this helps. Cool

What version of Stars! do you have? That doesn't happen in any I've ever played in.

Solo (=game without allies) maybe, it gets really troublesome in a large but solo I don't play in anything bigger than a medium anyway.

So a few tips:
- just play team games Grin or find a thrusted ally who can sweep the fields that have become useless.
- give the minelayers with speeds and heavies to your teammates or allies (VERY thrusted allies in this case), those fields have nothing special in the hands of the SD itself, they will decay a bit faster but since the special SD minelaying hulls keep their double laying even when transferred and with the huge pods this shouldn't be a problem.

Ahg-ghghghgh...hhh.gh... Evil or Very Mad
My apologies standart minefields do not blow the special ones. Embarassed
I donno what to say, I could have sworn that they did in that test game...
I must be having some halucinations now Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed
5 min later...
Now wait a minute!? Shocked
In 2.70i the speed bump IS affected by exploding standart minefield detonations. From the looks of it that be 10 standarts for 1 speedbump.
But I can't seem to get this to happen in the J3 patch...
Hmm... very strange Confused

Heavies are practically useless if they're turned against you. Give 'em to the local WM and strike up an offensive alliance. Twisted Evil

Time to resurrect an old thread !

Is there a limit to the mines a fleet can lay in a year similar to the amount of remote mining one fleet can do in a year? Stars help says somewhere over 32,000. Anyone met this limit?

I will probably test this soon in a game so can let you know later Very Happy

I can't find the limit, if there is one. I've layed over 12.7 million mines on one test, and no error or limit so far. One limit I have found is a number of mines in one field: when I lay that many mines in one year, it starts a new field the next year. I'm not sure why, but I think that you can't add new mines to a field that is above a certain size.

Ta for that! You didn't say what the limit in one field is? Is it the million?
