Very well. The universe having been redefined by the Uppis Duppis and now the Tarvey, the Hyperions will be forced to accept this new definition and work accordingly with the new rules. The Hyperions are quite capable of doing this.

The Faerie are also accepting the new redefinition of our small and crowded little galaxy, having decided to begin colonizing worlds in the space of others without asking permission. A new rule that can also be accomodated without problems.

But the ones to truly offend are the Staznagorians, who, even after having been warned off more than once, have decided to invade the actual core space of the Hyperions, having colonized Uranium without regard to treaties, warnings, and explanations of how core worlds that are not colonized will be remotely mined by Hyperion fleets.

However, we are still, despite all the rude and aggressive behavior being displayed throughout the known universe, hopeful for peaceful resolutions of disputes so that we might all be able to concentrate on trade and our economic fortunes. After all, these are the things that will ultimately bring about the fulfillment of all dreams, not this useless, wasteful skirmishing going on everywhere.

Ironically, only the Fools are showing wisdom up to this point in time. We therefore value their advice and cooperation above all others.

We would ask that the Staznagorians respond to this thread as soon as is convenient to discuss the situation on Uranium in a calm and peaceful manner, or even through normal communication channels if they prefer. I feel sure that all space faring species will agree, however, that the colonization of worlds immediately within the vicinity of another's home world is a dangerous precedent to allow without safeguards or treaties in place to protect both races' interests, which is why I am willing to hold open discussions with the offending parties.

Eros, Ambassador of Hyperion Foreign Affairs

The Staznagorian ambassador, returning from his hyperstasis vacation over the festival of BeegPar Tee, responds as follows:

I must admit that I feel that the term "invasion" in your message is really too stong a word for this situation. We both have worlds in space that could reasonably be considered the other's territory and have had no problems up until this point.

Which issues specifically would you like to discuss ?

At least the honorable Staznagorian ambassador has chosen to reply to the Hyperion grievances. Call

The issue is your blatant disregard for our wishes concerning Uranium! Do you deny that we did, in fact, state that Uranium was off-limits to colonization? We allowed some mingling of colonies, as you wished, with safe distances allowed for our need to feel secure. We have safely and honorably performed some limited trading to our mutual benefit. All these things we acknowledge and have been proud to participate.

But this new colony on Uranium is intolerable to us. We desire its removal immediately. We have claimed mining rights to this world, and Himshaw as well, since our initial communications.

The fact that we have a hyena to our West, not to be confused with the honorable one to our East, does not change matters in the least. For the sake of our continued cooperation, we ask that you honorably remove your colony without any further conversation.

To the Tarveys & Zorn, we send a warning. You are being used. You should be protecting your own interests, not those of another. Be warned that those without honor have no friends.

To the Faerie, we have managed to remain civil for many years now. Do not allow your greed to blind you to those who would be your friend.

To the Dyrham, we suggest, with respect, that you be prepared to grab the opportunity by the horns when it first presents itself. Opportunity hardly ever knocks twice.

To the Fools, who are never, we simply offer our thanks to a loyal friend.

To the 255, good things (25510100) come to those who wait (2558590). Forgive us if our accent confuses things.
Very Happy

To the Vader, your honor and nobility preceed you. We hold you in high esteem.

Finally, to the UD, we simply refer to 1 Kings 14:10 & 11 (KJV).

It seems that you were quite unsatisfied to the best solution our scientists and engineers had for your problem with our minefields being too close to your border planets.

So, this time we have given your message as input to our central computer instead of the engineers and scientists whose solution you did not like. As a result we got two encrypted outputs:
1) First one telling your future: Ezekiel 32:18-23.
2) Second one telling how your neighbours react to your help requests: Revelation 18:10.

After seeing that the first output from our central computer - Revelation 8:7 did indeed occur, we have all the reasons to believe the central computer output is correct this time also.

The Staznagorian ambassador replies:

We have asked the population of Uranium if they would be willing to relocate, but they have decided that they would prefer to remain as the weather there is quite nice and there is little overcrowding.

The ambassador goes on to note:

The Staznagorian government is obviously keen to maintain good relations with the Hyperions, and hopes that this incident does not become an impediment to that. They have confidence that, in the light of current events, the Hyperions also realise that a deterioration in diplomatic relations between our nations would not be advantageous to the Hyperion cause.

With regard to the mining rights to the planet, would you be willing to discuss a mineral tax instead ?

Our most abject apologies for the delay in our response, but affairs of State and all that rot ... you understand.

Mineral taxes are not the issue, nor even close to the answer. My Lord and Master Hyperion is becoming impatient at the apparent delaying tactics of the Staznagorian government. The colonists populating the world Uranium do not have a vote in this matter, unless they are desirous in deciding for themselves whether they leave Uranium or die there.

We do not wish for this to become an issue of such serious repercussions, but we are at the crossroads here, my friend. Either move the colony or we will decide the issue for ourselves.

The Lord Hyperion, out the kind mercy he extends to all, has granted you until 2455 to make a decision and act upon it, unless you press the issue further by transferring warships of any class to Uranium, in which case our good Sir Mahon has orders to proceed before the deadline.

No response is required, nor even looked for. All we are requiring at this point is action on your part.

Thank you for you kind attention in these most important and crucial matters.

Eros, Ambassador of Hyperion Foreign Affairs

Reactions from within Staznagoria to the latest proclomation from the Ambassador of Hyperion Foreign Affairs are many and varied:

The Staznagorian people salute the bravery of the Hyperions. Even when surrounded by enemies of overwhelming strength the honourable Hyperions are apparently still willing to go to war over a single planet.

The mayor of Uranium has expressed his hope that the populations of those Hyperion planets located within Staznagorian controlled territory will understand their plight and urge their government to adopt a less confrontational position on this matter.

The grand admiral of the fleet would like the ambassador to know that, of course, no Staznagorian warships would be stationed at Uranium.

The minister for trade and industry wishes to remind The Lord Hyperion of the great benefits that both of our nations have enjoyed to this point from our various trading arrangements. A lone voice speaking against the more impulsive voices in our government, the minister has declared his desire to continue normal trading with the Hyperions while this minor matter is resolved.

So now we learn the true nature of the Hyperions.

It is unfortunate that the peaceful citizens of Uranium had to pay with their lives for this knowledge, but their deaths shall not be in vain. Staznagorian vengence rides on swift wings.

All communications are now being routed through me. Ambassador Eros has other negotiations that have promise that he has to attend to. You will not find me as flexible nor as accomodating as the good Ambassador, as some others have learned.

Be grateful that I choose to respond to your communications at all.

Your protests fall upon deaf ears and your promises of vengence are merely amusing. You were warned quite plainly that Uranium was not negotiable, yet you chose to ignore the warnings, and so now you learn that Hyperions do not make promises upon vapor. I suppose that is the "true nature" that you are referring to, our traits of honesty, truthfulness, and righteousness.

It is indeed unfortunate that the citizens of Uranium had to pay for the stubborness of the Staznagorion Ambassador. Had you only heeded our pleas for sanity and fair play, they would have still been citizens - only they would have been somewhere else where they rightfully belonged.

All need not end on this note of war, however. We can still reach an understanding if you will just respond in a civilized and rational manner. The two of us should not initiate further hostilities in light of the current situation of the galaxy. A simple private communication can resolve all of this and we can still work in harmony.

Academy Divided On Historic Award
Taton- The recently-established Motion Picture Academy of Taton has turned in a split decision in giving an award for "Best Actor in a Diplomatic Negotiation Series". Half the Academy is supporting the Hyperions, while the other half is clearly in favor of the Staznagorians.

"It's a very tough decision," explained Slightly Silly Academician Kevin Phillips Bong. "Both diplomats are such masterful actors that one really believes they are truly at war. At least the Academy could agree on the script-writing."

The Hyperion/Staznagorian exchanges are the front-runners in the category of "Best Scripting of Fictional Relationships", an award they are expected to win handily.
