I uploaded my previous turn, I know this because my uploading script made the backup it makes on upload, yet AH has skipped my turn!

Planning took time. Planning of empire took more time than planning of other.

Time taken immediately, however.

Not time delay.

What would your "uploading script" do if the upload failed for some reason ?
Might it still make a backup ?

Yeah, it might.

It would, in fact. The thing is, if the upload fails, it's not because of bad password (unless my upload pass has been changed without anyone or anything telling me), because it remembers the password for me.

If AH wasn't accepting uploads, I might not have noticed this fact when it tried, and that would rather cause that precise issue.

So... *shrug*.

Borg see two possible results of investigation
{
no trace found
}
or
{
some indication of corrupted transfer
}

no trace found most likely as internet connection problem would mean no communication reached Autohost. Even reaching autohost may not have left trace in log file.

IF sotek gets rollback/resubmit even if no trace found THEN
{
no point waiting for Ron
}

...

Borg suggest in future cases
{
everyone responsible to verify autohost received file 5 minutes after sending, no rollbacks in similar situations
}
because
{
otherwise potential for cheating (adding moves after seeing furture situation) by someone who misses a turn due to being busy, etc.

hassle/frustration from future redoing of turns
}

...

Borg also suggest some improvement to automatic scripting may be possible to have response from Autohost after turn upload recorded and displayed when script done "file received xxxx bytes, blah blah blah"

Borg leader has some knowledge of visual basic. Weaker on perl, java but might manage with them as well. (Prefers c++)

Indeed, I agree that in the future we should try to avoid this, and it is my fault for not checking... I'm mostly annoyed because I discovered it an hour and a half after the gen went off.

OWK asked for my .x, and I've sent it to him; the oddest thing is that the uploader does show bytes recieved, and it was about as normal.

IF script returns HTML page generated by Autohost as file size received THEN
{
obviously problem with autohost
}
ELSE
{
could be break in internet connection in middle of transmit, data on your end was 'sent' and waiting in buffer but socket connection broke before data, clean close at Autohost end
}

If no trace found Sotek is (unfortunately for him) not receiving said break. Aurelian high command is responsible for ansible breakdowns leading to misplaced orders and other imperial commands.

So I plan on waiting 24 hours or so to see if Ron gets some time to look at this (I did get a response from him earlier today.) My little dilemma is that I do not want to delay the game unduly, but I also want the Aurelians to get the benefit of the doubt that there might have been trouble beyond his control on the AH side. [Yes, he could have verified the transfer sometime after the initial sending, but I'm trying to be just about this.]

Concur that improvement to the script to verify successful transfer a good idea. I suspect Sotek will proceed down this avenue as best he can given recent events.

I guess the lesson is to do an eyeball confirm for that green diamond before the gen. However, the turn corruption issue indicates that even that might not be enough.
