We have had the discussion as to the best MT item, now the question regarding what does one do with the ships that you get.

Do you keep them, scrap them 1 per turn, srap them all same turn...
Also, what is best way to max % chance of getting a toy?

Would like to hear your 2 cents worth...

I think getting about 75, scrapping about 25 of them a turn gets good results. I thnk the chance of gaining a MT technology is very low about 2% per each item, I'm not sure. You can get them in combat or in scrapping. Its very hard to trade them when one person lacks the right technology (since they might just get a tech advance, its one or the other)

Put the ships over your nearest starbase and scrap away.

The ships themselves are generally useless.

Ack! I was thinking of parts scrappers. With the MT give away ships themselves, I'd scrap one a turn, If I recall Correctly, the chance to get a part is dependant on how many parts you scrap, not number of ships. So if you scrap one each turn you may very likely get a part sionce there are a lot.

There is an exact forumla used to determine the % chance of gaining the ability to build an MT part. Hopefully someone will dig around enough to post it. I've seen it before, so I know it exists.

ZZZy a lot of this is from memeory:

The % chance for learning an MT item plans from scrapping depends on the number of items in each fleet scrapped. Each component scrapped in a fleet gives a 1% chance to learn how to build it. This is capped at 25% maximum for any fleet. Hence the standard way to transfer plans is to use 6 fleets, each with 25 components in it. Also iirc basic tech is checked before MT plans so it is possible that you'll get tech and not the plans. Never tested to see if you can get both a tech level and the plans for an item in the same year.

Now we did do some testing back in 1998 and it appears that you cannot transfer plans to another player without transferring the ships. I.e. unlike regular scrapping, you must own the ships you are scrapping to have any chance of learning the MT item plans.

from what I hear and read is the best thing to do is to put all the ships received into 1 fleet and scrap them together.
Right?

ZZZy, now as everyone is trying to remember, I will do so too.

MT-Parts are unlike other technology. For other technologies only the number of fleets are interesting as it didnīt matter if there is one part or hundreds of them in a fleet.

With MT-Parts the chance to receive a plan is 0.5 Percent per Part with a maximum of 12.5 Percent per fleet. So scrapping the ships a MT gives you is basically a good idea. (Unless you have spots left and got some very special job that could be only done by those ships.)
But if you scrap, I would advice to scrap one ship per year.

i think we had best results when scrapping 25 ITEMS per planet,
if 5 ships with 5 items each or 25 ships with 1 item each does
not matter. the formula says this gives 25%... i trust it.

if you have all tech for the item you have a chance to get it,
if a tech level is missing, you will probably get the tech.
i am not sure, but i think if you get a techlevel by scrapping
the turn you scrap mt-items you dont get the item!

so best thing to do is scrap mt and wolf-lamb tech with ally...
or pop drop... but i am not 100% sure at this...

with mt ships:
usually we set up wolf-lamb sites. everybody who got a ship
sets up one site and each turn one mt ship is shot down. so
each player has several chances to get a toy from the ship,
or several Smile in theory... and if different people get
different toys, they can exchange them again... and so on...

but chances are low... Sad but worth a try...

hope this helps...

You're right here, the more people you can get involved the more chance someone will get an item and can reproduce it to build more lambs.

MT Lifeboats (nub type) are not very usefull, except to get parts from. The Mini morphs with cargo space however can be VERY usefull in certain circumstances.

In a team game I was in some years back our IT got through a WH ending up in the backyard of another team, he was able to grab and hold a planet but other planets closeby were not very suited for him, the WH disappeared shortly after and nobody else got cols through in time.
But when we got MT Scouts (or Probe, don't remember) the other members of my team were able to send cols to the IT outpost as well, colonizing the other planets and fortifying our position.
It turned into a huge strategical advantage thanks to a few of those MT ships carrying jump gates!

As long as I'm not short in design slots I would not get rid of those MT ships that can hold cargo, even just 2 ships can get you to move cols fast were they are needed, or emergency mineral drops through gates ...

kind regards,
mch

Just to close down this thread, and let you know the outcome.

I finally tried scrapping the MT ship. I had all the tech levels of the MT items, (so was NOT possible to receive tech) so decided to scrap the hulls hopeing to get a toy. I had 4 ships, scrapped them individually in the same turn.
Received Nothing Sad
Maybe next time!
