I am playing SD for the first time against some friends, and I am having great fun blowing up theirs ships with my exploding minefields.. Laughing
However, I do have a question regarding the special minelaying hulls of the SD. These hulls are the only hulls that are immune to the detonating standard mine fields. Now I wonder, why are they immune to the detonating standards? Are they immune to the detonating standards because they are immune to the detonating standards? Or, are they immune because they are immune to MINE DETONATIONS in GENERAL? That is, can I safely speed them through enemy minefields at warp9/10, or is it only the special case of detonations, and not the headlong-into-with-to-high-warp-detonations they are immune to?

Only the special case of detonations.

And, I'm not sure about this, but it might be only the special case of YOUR detonations.

Just your own detonations. Another SD can nail your special hulls with his detonating fields.

I've seen MML "duels" in a few games where the fastest detonation wins...

The immunity to detonations of these huls is limited only to your own standard minefield detonations.

SD can travel safe at 2 warps above others so flying 77 ly at warp 9 in standard enemy field it is 50/50 chance to hit or pass. Wink

Hmmm, could you please elaborate on that for me? Is this another OOE issue where the lower player number has an advantage, or is it more complex than that?

Nothing special. Just getting them into one of your minefields before you end up in one of theirs. Higher tech standard layers give an edge since you can lay larger minefields (or at least lay them quicker.)

And player order won't save you since if you're in the detonating field after movement you're gonna get it regardless of player order.

I just found it a bit interesting to watch (it was a team game) since it was a sort of dodging ballet without a standard beam being fired. Didn't last long since there were sweepers deployed by both sides soon afterwards and the skirmishing became rather standard from then on.

I've started a discussion on this in the Academy section, but it seems playernumber *does* have effect on detonations!
So a duel between 2 SD's would get difficult (in the game in question we have at least 4 SD's...).
Interesting to know for all SD-players out there Wink
