A new set of sketches is on the way, and will be available shortly (as soon as work stops giving me stuff to do.... Razz)

Not that you *have* to use them or anything, but they're fun Laughing

Wow, awesome set. I'm having difficulty doing it justice Smile

Here's the first 2 ships

http://www.groep7.co.za/stars/graphics/freestars/shipset7/sh ip05.jpg
http://www.groep7.co.za/stars/graphics/freestars/shipset7/sh ip06.jpg

(Ship 5 and 6 in the tech browser) You'll notice the different colors. I'm not quite shure what to do with the colors. I was thinking bee scheme with added red for the warships. If you had something specific in mind, lemme know Smile I'll experiment and maybe come up with something else Smile

oh, and yes I'm still working on the other set. Needed to reduce thier polygon count and keep them pretty Smile

take whatever liberties you feel will enhance them Very Happy

the colours you've used are rather good though - i tend to think in black & white when sketching so i had'nt really got a specific colour scheme in mind.

i've just finsihed the other page for this set, but i'll have to wait to upload it for my network to stop acting up. (company system, nothing i can / am allowed to do other than wait) Confused

the 'harvester' set was a bit over-detailed Razz
at least everyone the nubian to look at Wink

I think I'll go with those color configs. Might add one or two more for the layers/miners.

The harvester set is fun because of the detail. takes a bit longer but its fun atleast Wink

Would it be in any way possible to make the colors variable by either (a) player number or (b) an option in the race wizard?

Just curious.

Although a rather fun idea, it isn't *really* nescessary as each shipset is unique to one player in any given game.

Anyways, just looking at the Alternate Reality site theres some shipsets with holes in them.
Are they complete, or are they just waiting on modelling? Smile

I'll prolly fine tune most of these models yet. Just getting the basic thing done.

Awesome! Cool But please do something about the "gray connecting struts" in the finished models. Turn them into shiny windowy concourses, multi-level corridors, greenery reservoirs, or similar. Smile

Also, the outer ring of that Deathstar "feels" like it should be bigger, and encompass the rest of the structure from a safer/wider distance. But perhaps it is a trick of distorted perspective... Razz

Probably best solution would be letting people make their own. Very Happy Transfering little 32x32 images with files should be no problem (one such image is at most 4KB in size, probably less.

Laughing
Then I could play my first game with this emblem: 2 Guns

Yep the size is no problem but ... I suspect that user-drawn graphics will make game look bad. Rolling Eyes Not everyone can draw nice pictures and so something like "all black" flag will be unneccessarily popular. Cool

I doubt that.

I don't see why custom flags would be a problem if the game comes with a few default ones already.

For what it matters I could make a pile of 32x32 jpegs to throw in too. Thee more the merrier, right?

Also, maybe make them larger, say, 64x64 or more, so they can hold more detail but still be shrinkable into a 32x32 square when necessary.

The problem i feared is the same as when people name all their designs "ship" for example just to spoil the fun of others. Of course it can be up to host to ban such activities or all black flags or black flags with one very dark dot on them.

Fine, zip together and PM to me? I just started to write a race wizard so i can put yours in as default ones. Wink

Yes. Actually there are even 16x16 versions used on original Battle VCR. But i would leave shrinking them up to player too on case of custom flag. I have noticed that automatic shrinking algorithms often give quite mediocre results.

One feature I've been hoping for is the ability to name other peoples ships. So if they name it something confusing, you can rename it something meaningful. Obviously those names only apply for you (and anyone else who does the same naming).

If that feature makes it, then racial icons, flags, and ship icons could as well.

Yes... sure. I first try to get something like a race wizard, to train me up with that wx vidget thing. Very Happy

2 last pages, race embleme and saving race back are missing rest is there more or less. So far seems that Race::GetAdvantagePoints() needs lots of fine-tuning both for speed and accuracy. Wink

The middle teardrop bit could do with being a bit 'fatter'.
I think it expands to the diameter of the ring...
That should convey an adequate sense of hugeness Wink

Those transports are spot-on though Very Happy

hmm.. that is, surprisingly enough, not as easy as I though Smile Might have to redo the whole thing :/ but yea, I'm not really happy with it's... girth either Wink

The bump texture is just a bunch of squares in shades gray. took me 1 minute to draw Smile

Okay ... something like a Race Wizard is integrated with force into Freestars Client and uploaded in Freestars cvs.
It opens, shows, edits and saves race files so ... good enough for an alpha ... but nothing to be proud about. Confused Major thing i dont like is that Race::GertAdvantagePoints seems to give quite odd numbers to edited race during editing process and also does it super slowly.

I think i let it to rest for a while and try my skill with ship & starbase designer for next. Laughing
